Access Statement
Recent guidance has introduced the concept of accommodation Access Statements as a way of demonstrating that services have, or will, address the 'obligations of reasonableness' introduced by the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (DDA).
Having an Access Statement does not necessarily mean that a building is suitable for people with disabilities. Rather, it helps to explain what features may be of benefit to individual's with disabilities and also what remaining difficulties these individuals may experience with access that cannot be reasonably overcome by the Company. In other words, the Access Statement should help you to have realistic expectations with respect to access if you have a disability.
