Local MP Supports British Tourism Week
Local MP, Robin Walker, met with local businesses in Worcester on Friday to support British Tourism Week.
Robin Walker was invited to the coffee morning at All Saints House in Worcester by JDR Leisure, to raise awareness of the size, value and importance of Britain’s £115 billion visitor economy.
JDR Leisure manages a number of 4 and 5 Star Rating self catering and corporate properties in Worcester and works very closely with the Tourism Association to encourage more visitors to Worcestershire.
The coffee morning was an opportunity for local businesses to discuss the local tourism industry and how the different sectors of tourism – from transport and tour operators to hotels and B&B’s, travel agencies and attractions – can come together to increase visitor numbers to Worcestershire.
Robin Walker MP said: “The government has recently announced a Tourism Strategy to promote Britain as a tourist destination. Local organisations have given a strong welcome for this move, which will promote both a stronger tourism sector and also support the private sector in providing more jobs to aid Britain’s economic recovery. Worcester, with its beautiful riverside, historic heritage and vibrant centre is well placed to benefit from this.”
British Tourism Week takes place 12-20 March 2011. BTW is organised by VisitBritain with the support of the Tourism Society, the UK’s regional and national tourist boards, and an Executive Council with representatives of the tourism industry from the public and private sector.
Jo Rammell, owner of JDR Leisure said “I would like to thank Robin Walker for taking time out of his busy schedule to support British Tourism Week. Tourism is important for everyone, not just those in the tourism business. I feel so strongly about this that, last year I also joined the committee of the Worcester Tourism Association, to promote Worcester as much as possible.”
Simon Tipple, Destination Worcestershire Manager, commented “the importance of tourism and visitor spend to the local economy must not be underestimated and British Tourism Week is the ideal opportunity to highlight this. The Elgar Suite is a fine example of high quality accommodation we have in the county and is an ideal setting to meet Robin Walker MP.”

Gold Stars for Local Business Winning Prestigious Award
Local Worcestershire Company, JDR Leisure, has recently won a top tourism award for their self catering and corporate accommodation.
Visit England has awarded JDR Leisure a Quality in Tourism 5 Star Gold Rating for their property at Powick Mills in Worcester. The award is not easy to obtain with only 6 other self catering properties in Worcestershire having achieved this rating.
The Gold award is given in recognition of exceptional quality with a property’s star rating, or for outperforming a star rating. The ratings help consumers to recognise quality and to differentiate levels of facilities and services before booking accommodation.
Jo Rammell, owner of JDR Leisure, said of the award “It’s a dream come true to have been awarded the 5 Star Gold Rating, all the hard work involved in getting the property to the highest standard has been worth it.” Jo went onto to say “Our Standards remain consistently high across all of our properties with customer care being our main priority, which is reflected in the feedback we receive.”
JDR Leisure is becoming used to receiving awards. In 2009 the company won the Worcestershire Awareness and Highly Commended for the Best Nights Sleep Awards. The awards celebrate the diversity of Worcestershire’s tourism business and reward the very best places in the county. JDR Leisure is entering the awards again this year in the categories of “Stunning Self Catering” and “Outstanding Contribution to Worcestershire Tourism”.
JDR Leisure is now in its fifth season having added 4 properties to their portfolio in the last 12 months. Jo set up the business in 2005 when, having moved back to Worcester from Kent, struggled to find rented accommodation while the property the family were buying was being completed. The business is going from strength to strength with plans to add more properties to the current portfolio.
